Flood insurance is a type of property insurance that covers a dwelling for losses sustained by water damage specifically due to flooding caused by heavy or prolonged rain, coastal storm surges, or blocked storm drainage systems. Flood insurance policies are available for all residential and commercial properties.
1- Standard homeowners’ policy does not cover flooding
Flood insurance provides coverage both the structure of the home and personal property if they are damaged in a flood.
2- Most flood insurance policies require a 30-day waiting period before the coverage is effective. Exceptions include if you’ve purchased a new home and the closing is in less than 30 days.
3- Even if your home is in a low risk flood zone, it is still recommended to obtain a flood policy.
